Joseph Gersh AM
Executive Chairman
Joe is founder and Executive Chairman of Gersh Investment Partners Limited. Joe is an adviser to, and director of, a range public and private companies in Australia. He is Chairman of the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (the Australian Government’s commercial property terrorism risk reinsurer), Artbank (the Federal Government’s art rental scheme which supports emerging Australian artists) and the National Institute of Circus Arts (Australia’s centre of excellence in contemporary circus training), as well as Deputy Chairman of the Australia Council for the Arts,. He is also a director of the Reserve Bank of Australia’s Payments System Board and The Sydney Institute and was previously a director of the Federal Airports Corporation. Joe has held a number of senior leadership positions in the Australian Jewish community.
Prior to founding GIPL, Joe was a senior partner and Chairman of the Management Committee of well-known Melbourne law firm, Arnold Bloch Leibler. During his 20 year association with ABL, Joe acted for some of the most prominent members of the Melbourne business community. One of his principal areas of expertise is major property development projects and, in particular, the construction of hotels, shopping centres and office towers.
Ilan Kraus
Director
Ilan has over 7 years experience in the finance and legal sectors with a particular focus on fund raising, funds management, foreign investment, corporations and securities law, mergers and acquistions and financial services compliance.
Previously a Senior Associate of top-tier national law firm, Freehills, Ilan was involved in numerous high profile capital raisings and refinancings (on behalf of both ASX-listed and unlisted companies and property trusts), the establishment of property investment funds and providing general corporate and funds management advice to clients including Macquarie Capital Advisers Limited, several Babcock & Brown managed funds, LendLease Primelife, Centro, Becton and Living and Leisure Australia Limited during the period 2004 to 2009.
Prior to working at Freehills, Ilan was a lawyer with Deacons from 2003 to 2004 practising in the areas of financial services and general corporate advisory.
Ilan joined Gersh Investment Partners Limited as a Director in 2010.
Ilan is involved with several charitable and business foundations including the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce, and the Young United Israel Appeal and has held several leadership positions within the Australian Jewish Community.
Tom Roe
Managing Director
Tom Roe is the Managing Director of Gersh Residential Land Partners having joined Gersh Investment Partners Limited in March 2004.
Tom has over 25 years experience in the property industry with a particular focus on land economics, financial modeling, valuation and due diligence. Tom has been a member of the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s Tax Committee and his contribution to the industry has included lecturing part time in Valuation of Listed Property Securities for the Securities Institute of Australia and in Land Economy for The University of Melbourne.
During his time with Gersh Investment Partners Limited, Tom has been involved in numerous investment related projects including residential sub-divisional land projects throughout Victoria, NSW and South East Queensland in both metropolitan and regional areas.
Prior to joining GIPL, Tom was employed in various property related roles including transaction management and property consultancy, with a specific focus on investment evaluation and corporate real estate.
In particular, Tom was a Director of Investment and Advisory with Urbis Pty Ltd, a well known national property consultancy firm, where he had responsibility for advising various large employee superannuation funds in their investment strategies, property holdings and new investment initiatives, and consulting to significant corporate real estate owners and occupiers.
Prior to his time with Urbis, Tom was a Director of Asset Management with Stanton Hillier Parker, a national estate agency practice, and an Associate Director with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in their corporate finance division.
Between mid 2009 to mid 2010, Tom was seconded to the Victorian State Government to assist with the implementation of the Nation Building Social Housing Initiative, which was funded by the Commonwealth Government.
Tom's specific role was to identify, negotiate and agree terms with developers to procure medium and high density multi-unit residential developments in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, to assist in the delivery of those projects and provide capital management support.
Tom is the key person responsible for GRLP’s Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL).
Jason Lont
Manager
Jason has over 6 years experience in the property industry with a particular focus on financial modeling, land economics, due diligence and capital management. Jason comes most recently from PPB Advisory where he was a key driver in the origination and development of PPB’s Real Estate Advisory team, responsible for deal structuring and origination, due diligence and financial modeling;
Previously a Financial Analyst of ASX listed, APN Property Group, Jason was involved heavily involved in the recapitalization and portfolio management of the APN European Property Group (ASX:AEZ) and other unlisted entities based in Europe. He also worked closely with APN’s executive team on potential corporate level capital and M&A opportunities;
Prior to this, Jason was employed as an Acquisitions Analyst by Macquarie Group’s Urban Pacific Limited. This involved the identification, negotiation and analysis of new sites as well preparation of internal credit papers, debt and equity IM’s and the engagement and management of consultant teams in order to facilitate the acquisition process.
Jason has also spent time working with Property Advisory firm, MacroPlan Australia where he worked across a number of teams including Property Research, Retail Economics and Development Advisory.
